Browsing markets

The Browse tab is where you go from “I want to bet on football” to a specific match. It mirrors Betfair’s hierarchy — Sport → Country → Competition → Event → Market — but with the noisy bits stripped out.

The path

  1. Sports. The home page lists every sport you’ve enabled. Tap any sport to drop into its country list. The sport tile shows how many markets are running right now, so you can see at a glance where the action is.
  2. Countries. Each country shows its top competitions inline as small cards, plus a link through to every event in that country. If a sport only has one country with anything happening, you can skip this level — the path-aware breadcrumb still works.
  3. Competitions / meetings. For team sports, this is the league or tournament (English Premier League, ATP Munich). For racing, this is the meeting (16:00 Fakenham, Aintree). Each tile shows the next start time and the number of markets.
  4. Events / races. A single match (Fulham v Aston Villa) or race (the 14:30 at Aintree). Tile shows kickoff/off time and number of markets available.
  5. Markets. Tapping an event takes you straight to its primary market — Match Odds for football, the Win market for racing. To see other markets on the same event, tap the markets count in the page header (e.g. “15 markets”).

What “markets” means in the count

The number you see (“15 markets”) is the count of distinct betting markets attached to that event — Match Odds, Both Teams to Score, Over/Under 2.5, Asian Handicap, etc. It refreshes a few times a day. If you see an event you’d expect to have more markets but it shows “1 market”, give it 30 seconds and reload — the cache is sometimes still warming up.

Breadcrumbs

The top of every page shows a breadcrumb trail: HOME › SOCCER › GREAT BRITAIN › ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE › Fulham v Aston Villa. Tap any crumb to jump back up the tree. Each crumb is a real link with full ancestor context — you can refresh the page or share the URL and the trail still works.

Why we hide some things

Betfair’s own apps surface every market type, every variant, and every special — fine for completeness, but it pushes the popular markets below the fold. B&L’s defaults bias towards the common cases (Match Odds, Win markets) and put everything else one tap away.
