Bets & Ladders Exchange Pro

Placing a bet

The basic placement flow in B&L is the same on every screen — runner cards, full ladder. Tap a price, the stake selector tells you how much, and a confirm dialog asks you to verify before sending.

Stake selector

A row of stake buttons sits at the bottom of every market and ladder screen — £2 / £5 / £10 / £25 / £100. Tap one to make it your active unit stake. The active button is highlighted in gold. Whatever’s highlighted is what gets used for the next bet.

The stake persists per session — switch from £2 to £25 and every subsequent tap on a price goes in for £25 until you change it again.

The two flows

Confirm-first (default)

Tap a price → a confirm dialog opens showing:

  • The runner you’re betting on
  • Side (BACK / LAY)
  • Price
  • Stake
  • For backs: Returns (stake × price)
  • For lays: Liability (stake × (price − 1))

Tap Confirm to send. Tap anywhere outside or Cancel to back out — nothing’s been sent yet. The dialog disappears and you stay on the same screen with no bet placed.

One-tap

If you toggle One-tap mode on (see One-tap mode), the confirm dialog goes away. Tap a price → bet is placed immediately at your current unit stake. There’s no undo and no second chance, so this mode is best left off until you’ve used B&L for a few sessions and trust the flow.

What happens after you tap Confirm

The bet is sent to Betfair via your vendor session. Within a second or two:

  • If matched fully → it appears in /orders under Matched and contributes to your if-wins P/L on the runner footer.
  • If matched partially → it shows up under Unmatched with a progress bar showing how much filled, and the unmatched portion sits in the Betfair queue at your price.
  • If fully unmatched → it joins the queue at your requested price. You’ll see it in /orders under Unmatched with a pulse-dot. It stays there until matched, cancelled, or the market closes.

You’ll also see your runner card’s footer P/L update. If your bet was matched, the new position is reflected immediately.

Cancelling

To cancel an unmatched (or partially-matched) bet, go to /orders and tap Cancel on the row. See Cancelling and editing bets for the full workflow including Cancel All.

What you can’t do

  • Place a bet on a SUSPENDED market — the price cells go disabled.
  • Place a bet at a price below the Betfair minimum tick — the stake selector + price selector enforce valid combinations.
  • Place a stake below £2 — Betfair’s minimum.
